I was being facetious, but yes, I have become obsessive about being clear. I spent a year in graduate school to earn a public school administrator’s credential. The professor, who was a mash-up of Aldus Dumbledore and Eddie Haskell, said never to use the word it. I have taken to following his advice and that one adjustment made my written communication much more clear. As for the admin credential, in California, you have to pay three years of school tuition to earn it and I decided that the ROI wasn’t there.

Insofar as the credential is concerned - there’s good money to be made with that credential in this state, but three years’ tuition sounds excessive. What university was this?

What state is this state? We make a nice chunk of extra change, but also deal with a nice chunk of extra hooey. I can come close to an administrator’s pay by doing some extra duties and still get the teachers’ vacation. As it turns out. My limited exposure to administration was harrowing and not something I’m comfortable discussing in the space, though I’d be happy to tell you about it in an email.

The professor was good; I learned much from him, but too much of what would be practical in making public education, well, practical , is washed over by academics who spend a great deal of time studying education but never seeming to learn much about it. Which qualifies them to design and teach graduate programs. In Education.
